Abstract:

In the last years synthesis of nano particles has been extensively investigated [1-3]. Materials with nano size show novel catalytic, magnetic, optical, mechanical and electrical properties which are significantly different from their bulk materials [4]. Sulfur nanoparticles are used for modification of carbon nano tubes, synthesis of sulfur nano composites for lithium batteries, synthesis of sulfur nanowires with carbon to form hybrid materials with useful properties for gas sensor and catalytic applications [1]. In this paper we have investigated three methods for synthesis of sulfur nanoparticles.1)Synthesis by catalytic oxidation of hazardous H2S gas using biodegradable Iron chelates in W/O microemulsion system which led to α-sulfur with average particle size of 10nm. 2) Synthesis of monoclinic or β-sulfur nanoparticles in a reverse microemulsion system which led to sulfur nanoparticles with an average particle size of about 20nm. 3) Synthesis of α-sulfur nanoparticles in aqueous surfactant media from thiosulphate solution with average particle size of about 30nm.
