Abstract:

The non ionic surfactant Triton X-100 about 35Wt% is soluble in water [1]. In the low concentration the cloud point of system is about 66 C. With increase concentration of Triton X-100 to 0.2 Wt%, the cloud point of solution of Triton X-100 will decrease, for concentration more than 0.2, the cloud point will increase [2]. Alcohols that as nonionic surfactant were studied, had different effect on cloud point. Long chain alcohols in all concentration (1-24Wt%) Triton, cause decreasing of cloud point. Reason of decrease to justify that the long-chain alcohols set inter micelle of Triton that cause attractive force and wandervalls inter micelle and between micelle increase, increasing wandervalls force cause that micelle format in lower CMC. In other words, temperature of cloud point will decrease. Isobutanol decrease temperature of cloud point less than 1-decanol that reason of being lower hydrocarbon isobutanoln chain in compares of 1-decanol. Lecithin as zwitterionic surfactant were studied. The result shows that the cloud point of Triton X-100 depend on the lecithin. In the low concentration of Triton X-100 lecithin decreased of cloud point, but in the high concentration of Triton X-100, the cloud point will increase in the presence of lecithin.
