Criteria of Satisfaction Regarding the Riverbank Green Space in Urban Neighborhoods

While many communities are asking more of their rejuvenated riverbanks, unchecked development in some cities of Iran increases the problems related to urban rivers. Moreover, inadequately treated sewage discharges have become serious challenges in most cities. Protecting and recovering river health must be a co-equal goal with efforts to revitalize riverbanks for social activities within a city. Mehran River in Tabriz was chosen as the subject of this study, in order to explore the factors that influence the participation and satisfaction of local community in riverbank green space. A survey questionnaire was designed to understand the participation of the residents in relation to the use of the riverbank landscape in each section as the recreational resource. The results revealed that more attention must be paid for planning and design of riverbank green space. Beside, some motivations must be provided to encourage local community for higher participation.
