Abstract:

The present study targets the issue of engine failure as a main cause to an aeroplane crash. The study provides an understanding of the existing four unique expert systems. In this work, fuzzy logic Mamdani is used to evaluate the on-line condition monitoring of Pratt and Whitney JT8Dturbofan engine used on B737-200. For the MATLAB project, the four baseline parameters are fuel flow, fuel pressure, oil temperature, and speed. The engine thrust is the output considered in performance evaluation. The results indicate how an aircraft should respond to the inputconditions for optimal performance. However, the system permits the pilot to make decisions that override the system’s decisions hence strengthening the sole responsibility of the pilot. The system is based on real life situations. The system proves to be effective in improving theperformance of an aircraft on-line and is acceptable for reference use by the maintenance team
