Modifying the wear behavior of POM gears in diaphragm gas meters with nano-particles abstract

The internal plastic parts of diaphragm gas meters are made of Polyoxymethylene (POM). The most important part of these are the gears of the index window. The spin of these gears shows the correct amount of gas consumed. Unfortunately, these gears wear and tear on their tips. To tackle that and in order to assess the possibility of modifying the abrasive strength of this polymer, its nanoclaynanocomposites with 0.5 and 1 wt% were prepared via an internal mixer. These nanocomposites were shaped as a cylinder and placed in an abrasion wear tester. The results showed that both nanocomposites have shown increased abrasive wear resistance, and the best case was for the 0.5 wt% sample.
