An overview of Green Spaces in Medical Centers and the Healing Process of Patients abstract
The aim of creating the healing garden is to improve the health processes of patients by providing an environment inside and outside of the hospital. Green nature, sunlight and fresh air are as essential components of hospital design. In the past decades, these factors were important principles for the architects to design hospital areas such as Namazi hospital of Shiraz with its great green environment; which has been forgotten in recent project in terms of quality.This paper uses a descriptive method to review the effect of gardens on the healing process of patients under treatment in hospitals. Therefore, it is fundamental to focus on the effect of garden environment on the well-being of patients. Designing the future hospitals based on new architectural is important for the mental and physical treatment process of patients. The related studies show that the feeling ofsatisfaction the visitors, staff and patients have in medical centers with green environments is far much higher than the feeling they have in those without any green area. Moreover, reduction in depression, rising of the quality of life for chronic and terminally-ill, patients are among the major benefits of green spaces in hospitals
