Assessment of health-promoting lifestyle dimensions associated with osteoporosis on female students abstract
Background: Osteoporosis is a skeletal disorder that effects on individual and community health. Health-promoting
lifestyle (HPL) is one of the main criteria which determine health andinclude the six dimensions. This study was conducted to assess health-promoting
lifestyle dimensions associated with
osteoporosis on female students Methods: This cross-sectional study approved by the ethics committee of Jahrom University of Medical Sciences. One hundred and thirty-six students with multi stage random Samplingmethod were selected. Data were collected via questionnaires. The questionnaire included twosections: demographic and Walker
lifestyle questions related to the six dimensions of HPL. The collected data were converted to percentages and analyzed using SPSS version 24, and descriptive and independent t-test and nonparametric tests were applied. The significance level was 0.05. Results: The average
lifestyle score of students was 50±3.7 percent that is a moderate lifestyle.In this study, the highest scores were in the dimension of nutrition (54.9±8.8 percent) and exercise (53.6± 8.6). Other dimension scores were self-actualization (51.5±7.5), health responsibility (46.6±6), interpersonal support (46.9±5) and stress management (43.4±6.9). In this study a significant difference was reported between total score of
lifestyle associated with homeowner’s, being smoker, coffee consumption and exercise of participants (P < 0.05).Conclusion: Students had a moderate score of life style score. Since the lowest scores wererelated to stress management, interpersonal support and health responsibility, more education and social support programs are required for improve of life style with emphasis these issues
