Abstract:

Background and objectives: Preventing falls in the elderly is one of the major challenges in public health. Therefore, the aim of this study was to investigate the effect of educational intervention on performing equestrian exercises, vestibular system and quality of life in elderly people in Shiraz.Materials and methods: This is a Clinical Trial study in 60 elderly women with a history of fall in the last 6 to 12 months. The elderly were selected by objective sampling method and then randomly assigned to experimental groups (n = 30) and control (n = 30). The study outcomes were measured OTONEUROLOGY questioner, VNG assays before and two months after the intervention. The intervention include strengthening the sensory-motor system was conducted in the experimental group. Data were analyzed by SPSS software version 25 and significant values were set at 0.05.Findings: The results of the study showed that there was a significant improvement in the VNG test and on the other hand, dizziness, headache, head stiffness and tinnitus were significantly different in the experimental group compared to before and after the intervention.Conclusion: The results of this study provide useful implications for the development of equilibrium exercises in the elderly and also research to assess the long-term consequences of such interventions in the elderly
