Abstract:

Background: In the past two decades, we have been faced withthe growth of medical science in the country. It seems that thereare similar conditions for war injuries. The important thing is toknow of the subjects under study in these articles as well as thevarious groups of injured/ affected people during Iraq-Iran war(1980-88). The purpose of this study is to review the quantitativeliterature on war health and injuries has been published indomestic and international journals. Methods: The present studyis a descriptive study that has reviewed all published articles inthe field of healthcare about Iraq- Iran War in domestic andforeign journals. In order to access the articles, external databases(Pubmed, Scopse, Embassy, Web of Science, Cochrane Library)and internal (SID, Magiran, Barekat) have been searched.Results: 1513 articles were recorded. About 628 (42%) articleswere published in Peer-Review Journals and 885others (58%)published in internal journals. A civilian injury was discussed in266(17.6%) articles including directly injured in war (8.6%) andfamilies of veterans (9%). Original article was the most commontype of articles with (86.5%) following by review and case reportswith 5.7% and 3.5%, respectively. 875 articles (57.8%) werepublished by research centers and institutes concentrated inTehran. In 48% (726/1513) of articles, the subjects ofinvestigations were victims of chemical gases Meanwhile, Nonchemicalinjuries were discussed in 52% (787/1513) others. Themost topics for chemical and Non-chemical articles wereinvestigation of chemical injury consequences and mental healthwith 11.8% (84/726) and 37.7% (297/787) articles, respectively.Conclusion: For first step, it is necessary to make a road map forresearch for war injuries. In addition, all affected group must beconsidered and the research should be designed and implementedaccording to the needs of them in order to respond to their needs.
