Abstract:

This paper presents a composite expansion planning (CEP) which considers the impact of candidate generating unit’s location besides the transmission congestion in the course of planning horizon. An efficient Benders decomposition scheme intertwined with a disjunctive formulation is applied to decompose the original CEP problem into a master problem and two sub-problems standing for security and optimal operation. Besides, a sophisticated scheme is applied togain an optimal value for CEP disjunctive parameters. Since the level of congestion is an appropriate criterion to determine the degree of market competitiveness, the proposed model considers a specific term as the congestion cost (CC). The proposed CEP model minimizes the total costs comprising the investment cost as well as the congestion cost. The proposed approach is applied to the northeastern area of the Iranian power grid.
