Abstract:

Background: Plasmapheresis is using to supply plasma to produce plasma-derived drugs in Iran. This method is approved by the FDA and is cited as a safe way to prepare the plasma. However adverse side effects are reported. The purpose of this study was to evaluate the complications of plasmapheresis donors in Iran Blood Transfusion Organization. Method: This study was conducted on plasmapheresis donors, who were apheresised from April 2017 to May 2018. Firstly, guidelines were prepared. Side effects were monitored, using monthly follow-up forms from 11 provincial centers which performed apheresis. Results: Out of 8546 Plasma donations, 82 cases (1%) side effects were reported. The most side effects respectively were 70 cases (86%) of vasovagal, 7 cases of vascular injury (9%), 5 cases (5%) citrate toxicity.50 cases (61%) were mild reaction, 31 cases (38%) were moderate reaction and only 1 case (1%) was sever reaction.Discuss: According to the results, it seems that plasmapheresis is a safety method for plasma donation. Most of the complications have been mild to moderate and have resolved rapidly. In comparison of similar articles, it seems that results are less than real Because of incomplete data records and we need better documentation and monitoring.
