Misdiagnosis of Leptospirosis

Early diagnosis of leptospirosis is essential because antibiotic treatment is most effective when initiated early in the course of the disease. The accuracy of its clinical diagnosis is not very reliable as there can overlap with the other prevalent infectious diseases. Its clinical symptom needs to be confirmed by diagnostic test and even epidemiological data. Diagnosis of leptospirosis depends on the reliable test with known limitations of each one, due to the nonspecific and diverse presentation in the early phase or mild leptospirosis and the nonspecific nature of general laboratory test findings.Clinicians many experts agree that adequate laboratory tests for early diagnosis are still lacking. Public health authorities and laboratory s experts have pointed out the urgent need for developing more effective technologies on case detection and diagnosis. They are still discussing for their limitations and pitfalls.Temporal stage of the disease is the main determination to choose the tests, that it is mostly ignored from the clinicians and diagnostic laboratories. It seems we need to revise and have a clear our diagnostic policy in these problematic issues. This review is going to underline the limitations, specific efficiency and correct applying the available diagnostic methods for leptospires
