Clinic-pathologic patterns of non tumoral skin lesions in patients referring to Pasteur Hospital: 2017-2018 abstract

Aim and Background: The skin is the largest organ of the body that is always exposed and its appearance reflects the health condition. Nowadays distribution of skin patterns and types of the presented cells can help as a key in detecting a large number of skin diseases. Usually clinical evidence, are not alone enough for diagnosis and the definite diagnosis should be determined by histopathological examination. Clinicopathologic correlations are so helpful in choosing proper therapies. The aim of this study was to evaluate non tumoral skin diseases in various age groups, histopathological evaluation and analysis the clinicopathologic patterns. Material &method: This cross sectional Study was done in Pasteur Hospital, Bam University of medical science, between November 2017 to May 2018. The skin biopsies were collected by dermatologist and the samples (108 cases) were sent to pathology ward for evaluation by pathologist. Patient’s data included age, sex, duration, number, type, color, location of the skin lesions and histopathological findings were collected in a check list. The data were analyzed by SPSS software. Results: The study included 108 patient with the average age of 36/2 y. (48/2%) were female and (51/8%) were male. The highest and lowest incidence of the lesions location were lower limb (20/3%) and abdominal region (0.9%) respectively. Keratinized cysts were the commonest pathology (26.8%) followed by lichenoid tissue reaction pattern (19/4%) and Papulosquamous diseases (13.3%).Clinicopathologic correlation in (88.8%) and the incompatibility in (11.2%) of cases, mainly in lichenoid pattern were visualized, Conclusion: It seems although skin lesions have different clinical manifestations and the correlation with histopathological findings were acceptable but yet in differential diagnosis of some skin patterns especially lichenoid type, pathologic findings are gold standard.
