An introduction on ZFIQ: zebrafish (Danio rerio) image quantitator abstract

Over the last 25 years, the zebrafish (Danio rerio) has become a vertebrate animal model in drug discovery, toxicity, developmental biology, biomedical research, genetic and chemical screening [1]. Compared with other animal models, the zebrafish has several unique advantages that make it well suited for in vivo studies of vertebrates in biology, including its rapid development, large transparent embryos that develop outside the mother, cheap husbandry, high reproduction rate and a short hatching period [2]. Developing a data analysis system that can deal with the diversity of zebrafish datasets and data quality is a challenge. The ZFIQ (Zebrafish image quantitator) software toolkit was developed by the research group at Houston Methodist. ZFIQ is a data analysis system that can deal with the diversity of zebrafish datasets and data quality. This platform includes four components: (i) a pipeline construction environment, (ii) a pipeline pool, (iii) the algorithm and method repository and (iv) the pipeline running environment [3].
