Abstract:
Three dimensional simulation of film boiling on a vertical surface have been performed. A coupled level set and volume of fluid (CLSVOF) formulation for tracking the liquid–vapor interface is modified to include the effect of phase change at the liquid–vaporinterface. A finite volume method is used to solve the equations governing the conservation of mass,momentum and energy in vapor and liquid phases. In this process the power law scheme has been used in order to discrete convection terms in extended momentum equations. The PISO algorithm is used to couple the velocity and pressure fields. The fluid flowadjacent to the hot surface is assumed as laminar and unsteady. The velocity and temperature fields and also the interface surface have been computed. Variations ofaverage film heat transfer coefficient with ΔT are compared with the other numerical and analytical datadisplaying reasonable agreement
