Abstract:
Invoking phase change material (PCM) based heat sinks as a technique for thermal management is an appropriate cooling scheme for transient or short term applications. The latent heat of the most PCMs is desirably high but the thermal conductivity is unacceptable. The fins act as thermal conductivity enhancers (TCEs). The main goal of this study is to obtain the configurations that maximize the heat sink operational time. Paraffin RT44HC is used as PCM while the fins and heat sink base is made of aluminum. In this study variation ofphase change material and base temperature during melting process are studied. For comparison of the results indicate that if length of the blade is longer more reduce time of melting of PCM. Also if the number of blades versus volume of the blades increase, the meltingprocess will be faster because of greater contact occurs between blade and phase change material.
