Abstract:

Natural gas is often described as the cleanest fossil fuel, producing less carbon dioxide per joule delivered than either coal or oil. However, natural gas produced about 5,300 Mt/yr of total globe CO2 emissions which has severe effect on the environment as a greenhouse gas. In the oil refinery, hydrogen generation is one of the most significant contributors of CO2 and has more than 25% of the total refinery CO2 emissions. In this paper, three distinct solutions has been investigated to decrease CO2 emission of hydrogen plant in Bandar Abbas refinery, including export steam minimization, combustion air preheating and adding pre-reformer. The results are demonstrated that the combustion air preheating is the most economical method, whereas export steam minimization can up to around 16% CO2 curtailing. Considerations all three options can reduce CO2 emission about 32%.
