A New Method for Computing Load-Settlement Characteristics of Piles Embedded in Layered Soil Profile abstract
In this paper, it has been attempted to determine load-settlement response of axially loaded piles embedded in stratified deposits. The method was originally developed by the first author for piles vibrating harmonically in the axial direction. The basis of the method is mathematics. The pile is divided into several segments according to the soil stratification. The governing differential equation for each segment has been first determined and solved. The solution starts from the lowest segment and ends to the uppermost segment. The outcome of the method has been verified using several available solutions. For piles embedded in stratified deposits, the results have been determined and compared with an available solution. These comparisons have been shown a very good agreement, demonstrating the capability of the method. Other features of the method are also presented.
