Estimation of Dual-Energy Windows Method for scatter correction of SPECT Images Using the Monte Carlo GATE code abstract

Background: SPECT imaging is performed to determine the distribution of activity in the body in order to diagnose clinical cases. One of the issues that makes the correct diagnosis of the lesion difficult in this way is to detect scattered photons in the photopeak range. Therefore, the use of spatial correction modalities has always been considered and various methods have been developed, including energy efficiency methods and spatial analysis methods.Method: In this study, the GATE Monte Carlo code was used to produce SPECT images. Spectrum images from the jaszczak standard phantom are taken in two energy levels using the GATE code and simulated gamma camera Siemens. The projections were transmitted to MATLAB software, and then, in practice, the contribution of scattered beams in the photopic was calculated using k diffraction coefficient.Results: The results show that by choosing the optimal coefficient k, the contrast of the images can be increased. In this study, the k-optimal coefficient for the difference in phantom activity takes a number in the range of 0.91-0.98, which will result in increased contrast.Conclusion: According to simulation studies, the results show that with the help of scatter correction algorithms and of course optimization, it can greatly improve the quality of SPECT images, which is always a challenge for clinical diagnostic cases.
