Abstract:
Background: Bone scintigraphy known as one of the most common scans in nuclear medicine centers after MPI, and proper doing this procedure have important role in diagnosis and finally in radiation protection for reducing the exposure of personnel and patients. So, the purpose of this study was to evaluation of the conformity of this procedure at our center with international standards: Society of Nuclear Medicine (SNM) and European Association of Nuclear Medicine (EANM).Methods: During this study, procedure of scintigraphy for 100 patients (30 patients with 3-phase scans) in three months have been used. All the information of patient from reception to the dismissal evaluated based latest EANM and SNM bone scintigraphy guidelines. Results: The results indicate that the findings are consistent with guidelines in most of case especially patient s safety precautions, interpretation of results and radiation protection programs. But injection of radiopharmaceutical was based on the patient s weight and in accordance with SNM. and in the case of static images, 24-hour latency images of patients with infection problems match with EANM protocol. all static images with a 128*128 matrix and over 700 Kcounts are taken, which does not conform to the SNM protocol. Conclusion: We have concluded that the rate of compliance of the bone scintigraphy in the first quarter of the newly established center of nuclear medicine in Semnan is according to international guideline but in some case disagreement between guidelines is the main reasons of the discrepancies in practice.
