improving the participation of men in mother and child health: A systematic review abstract

Introduction: Pregnancy and childbirth is one of the most important events in the life of every woman who can be memorable, with positive consequences for the mother and the baby, under the protection of her parents, especially the spouse. This study aimed at investigating interventions in Iran and the world to enhance the participation of men in mother and child care.Methods: This study is a systematic review of published articles on ways to promote male participation during before, during and after childbirth, based on PRISMA guidelines and research by two scholars in the valid databases. Empirical and semi-experimental studies that have been published on strategies for increasing male participation during perinatal period, were published in internal and international journals. The data extraction was based on the STROBE checklist and the researcher s checklist.Results: In this systematic review, 2403 articles were identified, after reviewing the titles, and considering the inclusion and exclusion criteria, a total of 15 studies were submitted to the study. The strategies used were categorized into four groups of female-centered, spouse-centered, community-centered, and facility-centered.Conclusion: According to the results of this study, in order to promote the participation of men in mother and child care, it should be planned on four female-centered, couple- centered, community-centered and facility-centered areas.
