Abstract:

Background and Aim : Smart phone addiction is a recent phenomenon which has been rising tremendously as new applications being published specially in Southeast Asia. Iranian users play a noticeable part in utilizing this new technology. This research conducted to evaluate psychometric characteristics of smartphone addiction scale in Persian population.Methods : This was a cross-sectional study which was conducted in 2017. The Persian SAS and Internet addiction test, which is already validated in Iran were fulfilled by 200 students of Tehran universities who were selected with multistage sampling.Results : Pearson correlation coefficient was 0.7 (P=0.00), which shows that there is strong positive correlation between Persian SAS and Persian IAT. The optimal cut-off score for identifying at-risk cases was more than 106, with a sensitivity of 80%, a specificity of 86%. Cronbach’s alpha coefficient for the total scale was 0.93. Test-retest reliability of Persian SAS is high. with Inter-class correlation 0.996.Conclusion : Persian SAS is a valid and reliable tool for examining smartphone addiction in Iranian society.
