RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN DEMOGRAPHIC CHARACTERISTICS AND ADDICTION POTENTIAL AMONG STUDENTS OF KERMANSHAH UNIVERSITY OF MEDICAL SCIENCES

Abstract:

Background and Aim : Addiction and its tendency to become a global crisis in all groups, especially in students. Therefore, the present study was conducted to investigate the relationship between demographic characteristics and addiction potential among students of Kermanshah University of Medical Sciences.Methods : The present study is a correlation study. The statistical population included all students of Kermanshah University of Medical Sciences (Iran) Medical School in 2018, of whom 200 were selected by available method. Data analysis was done using SPSS20 software and correlation coefficients.Results : The analyzes revealed that 73 (36.5%) students were 21-23 years old, 49 (24.5%) were 18-20 and 48 (24%) 24-26, while 30 (15%) were over the age of 26. The total mean score of addiction potential was found to be significantly higher in the male and married students as well as in those with a positive family history of addiction compared to in the female and single students with a negative family history of addiction (Ps<0.05)Conclusion : : Regarding the role of demographic characteristics in students addiction potential, university administrators will conduct workshops and seminars for students to be aware of the demographic features of addiction.
