Abstract:
Background and Aim : The purpose of this study was to investigate the effect of muscle relaxation and anger management on reducing the amount of anger in offenders who are drug addicted to opiate. Methods : In a semi-experimental design (pre-test, post-test) with a control group, 200 offenders were opiate drug addicts, after initial screening, 45 offenders with high anger rates were randomly selected. The research consisted of two experimental groups and one control group. In the muscle relaxation exercise group (n = 15), the muscle relaxation program was performed in a group. Anger management test group (n = 15) also received anger management program in a group. The control group went through the routine of the crack. The severity of anger was evaluated in two stages of pre-test and post-test (two months later) in all three groups. For collecting data, Spielberger s Anger Scale questionnaire was used and data were analyzed by covariance analysis. Results : The findings showed that both muscle relaxation and anger management were effective in reducing anger scores at a significant level (P = 0.001 and F = 12.463). There was a significant difference between the intensity of anger in the relaxation and anger management group (P <0.003 , F = 120/10), which means that the rate of anger reduction in the anger management group was more pronounced. Conclusion : Although both muscle relaxation and anger management were effective in reducing anger rates, the effect of anger management was significantly more than muscle relaxation.
