Abstract:
The thermally sprayed coating is broadly used in numerous applications for improving the corrosion and wear properties on the surface of various products. The result of the coating process is to protect the surface of materials against some defectiveness such as crack or residual porosity. Nowadays, various techniques are applied to increase the quality of the coating process. Laser post-treatment process is one of the promising methods which is non-contact and mini-invasive technology. High-power diode laser (HPDL) is an effective technique for improving the coating process on various materials. However, finding the optimum operational parameters, including laser power and scan speed, is challenging and needs to be investigated for achieving the most favorable properties. The present work reports the effect of the laser parameters on the mechanical and microstructural properties of Diamalloy 2002 coating on Aluminum 6082 alloy. In this respect, SEM and EDXS analysis were applied to investigate the morphology, microstructure and the chemical deposition of the coating after the laser treatment process. Moreover, the effect of laser process on mechanical properties of coatings, including elastic modulus, wear resistance, hardness, and scratch were investigated in this study as well.
