A Review of EEG-Based Methods For Cognitive Assessment in Sport abstract

Cognition refers to the mental processes involved in acquiring knowledge and understanding, such as thinking, recalling, Awareness, and problem solving. The role of cognition in perception, anticipation and enhancement athlete’s performance is an area that has been considered in recent years. Cognitive neuroscience uses a wide range of brain imaging techniques to examine brain connections in various processes. Here we provide a selective overview of evidence to date, derived from studies investigating a range of sporting behavior. Two categories will study: Pre/post measurement of EEG, Skilled versus amateur. Level of athlete’s, protocol of EEG/ERP record, and results of each study will be discussed. Studies have shown that changes in frequency bands, especially alpha, in certain areas of the brain are related to athletic cognitive function. The contribution of the articles was examined using Frequency Analysis for cognitive assessment using EEG.
