Abstract:
Cytotoxicity effect and antibacterial activity are the most important properties for material use in wound healing applications. In this regard, in vitro toxicity examinations are more favorable than those performed in vivo, as the results are more reproducible and predictive. In this paper, all paramount experimental parameters of biocompatibility in vitro including: nature of the sample, the amount exposed to the test cells, extraction volume, pH, chemical solubility, diffusion rate, osmolarity, agitation, temperature, time and other factors are generally revaluated. In this regard we show the results of our experiences to know the biocompatibility of different wound dressing materials that to be used in contact with skin. Furthermore, we discuss how in vitro cytotoxicity data can be used in assessment of other biocompatibility data and the intended use of the product.
