Abstract:

Introduction: Preserving skin integrity is critical to protect against dehydration and bleeding, and prevent the entry of microorganisms. Traditional medicine has been used in Africa and Asia for treatment of cutaneous ulcers in recent centuries. Iran is one of the seven Asian countries with the most medicinal herbs.Method: This review was conducted by online review of Persian articles published in the last two decades with the keywords of medicinal herbs, ulcer, ulcer healing and skin in Academic Jihad, Magiran, Iran Medex, and Google Scholar databases. Finally, 35 articles were analyzed given the considered conditions, namely similarity of the subject to the work. Results: Findings show that many herbs are used in treatment of skin ulcers. Honey, turmeric, aloe vera, henna leaf, artemisia sorrel, ostrich oil, propolis, sumac, fennel flower oil, mummies, colporea, milk thistle, resin, olive, green tea alone or in combination are effective on treatment of skin ulcers. Conclusion: Given the importance of skin protection, it is suggested that herbal remedies, in addition to chemical treatments, should also be used in treatment of skin ulcers so that we can take effective steps to improve existing conditions.
