Abstract:

Background and Aim : Resilience is considered as a predictor of prevention and reduction oftension and professional stress. In this area, one of the most important skills to enhance resilienceis problem-solving and decision-making skills. The purpose of this study was to determine theeffect of decision-making and problem-solving training on resilience of medical emergencypersonnel in Gonabad. Methods : In this quasi-experimental study (2017), 60 employees of Gonabad Center of MedicalEmergencies who had inclusion criteria were selected and randomly assigned into two groups ofintervention and control. The intervention group received six sessions of problem-solving trainingin the form of lecture, question and answer, and group discussion planned according to D Zurillaand Goldfried protocol, while the control group did not receive any intervention. At baseline andend of the study, both groups filled the Conner and Davidson resiliency questionnaire. Thecollected data was analyzed using SPSS 20 software, independent t-test and Chi-square test(P<0.05)Results : each group contained 30 samples who had no significant difference in terms ofunderlying features (p> 0.05). The mean score of resilience was not significantly different in twogroups before intervention (P=0.452), while there was a significant difference between two groupsafter intervention (P<0.001). However, the mean difference before and after intervention wasstatistically significant in both groups (P<0.001). Thus, the mean score of resilience decreased inthe control group and increased in the intervention group. Conclusion : The findings showed that problem-solving and decision-making training improvedresilience of emergency personnel. Therefore, it is recommended that problem-solving anddecision-making training be included in in-service educational program for emergency personnel.
