Abstract:

Background: In recent decades, an increase in the number of patients diagnosed with different types of lymphomas especially Hodgkin has been seen. Recognizing otherinvolved organs especially bone marrow has a great impact on determining , prognosis, survival and treatment modality in patients.Method: During years2015-2017, clinical and pathological cases and immunohistochemistry results of patients with Hodgkin lymphoma that conducted bone marrow biopsy for staging, were investigated Findings: in three years, 99 patients with lymphoma that conducted bone marrow biopsy for staging, were identified. 40 of them were recognized Hodgkin by using histopathology and immunohistochemistry results of lymph nodes or other involved organs. Bone marrow involvement of these patients were determined based on bone marrow pathological results obtained from bone marrow aspiration and biopsy. Review of aspiration and biopsy of these patients showed bone marrow involvement in 4 patients (10 percent) that all of them were males and mixed cellularity type of Hodgkin lymphoma. Discussion: among 40 patients with Hodgkin lymphoma, bone marrow involvement wasfound in 4 patients, only one of them was asked to do immunohistochemistry staining on bone marrow biopsy sample for confirmation of diagnosis. Considering that only unilateralbiopsy from iliac spine is obtained in this center, no contradiction was seen between our results and other investigations.so trusting and siting the results of unilateral biopsy, seemsto be correct. Results: according to other researches in the context of cancer prevalence in Kerman and its importance due to its increase and also treatment modality, noticing the bone marrow involvement have a great importance in patients follow up.
