Abstract:

Structural damage detection which is a branch of Structural health monitoring, has been an attractive research area for engineers in recent decades. Model updating based on modal data using evolutionary optimization of imperialist competitive algorithm has been proposed in this paper as an effective method for detecting damage in truss structures. A number of numerical examples are investigated afterwards so that the method can be validated, and effects of number of measurement modes as well as the effects of measurement noises are taken into consideration in order that the situation can be made more realistic. All of the results are illustrative of the fact that the method is well capable of detecting different types of damage in truss structures
