Abstract:
The quality of urban environments and spaces affect both the individual and the community via its most salient manifestations and modes, and can be considered as a criterion for desirability of cities as it shapes people’s social character. However, the physical quality, according to Carmona, depends on the quality of the environment. Of course, the semantic dimension of space, that is, the qualities of space that directly affect human perception depend on the interpretation of human from space. Jouybareh neighborhood is one of the historic fabrics of Isfahan city, in which the decay of various physical, functional, environmental, economic and social elements has led to the reduction of qualitative environmental values as well as its residential values. As a result, regeneration in this valuable fabric has been stopped and migration rate is increasing. This issue is posing a threat to this fabric. Undoubtedly, the improvement of the physical quality of this historical neighborhood would increase the sustainability of social life in it. But the main question is, reinforcing which physical factors in this neighborhood can improve its quality. Therefore, this research is aimed to provide a model based on Carmona evaluative model for the environmental quality for Juybareh neighborhood. In this regard, the present paper is an applied-qualitative research using survey method. The data is collected largely by field methods, and also library references. Data collection tools include observation, questionnaire and interview with local residents.
