Assessment of Day Lighting Supply of Orsi Windows and Their Application In Current Architecture

Orsi window is the result of a combining wooden hand craft with color glazing and considered as an important element of Iranian indigenous and traditional architecture. In addition to beauty and psychosocial influence, it has positive effect on the room illumination. Light which supply by Orsi windows is based on the light obtained and transmitted by color glazing. Unfortunately it been neglected in current architecture. The main purpose of this paper is to evaluate the possibility of Orsi windows usage in present residential building. This case study first explains general features of Orsi windows and then evaluated amount of day light in 4 samples. Based on the results, it can be concluded that Orsi windows (with its considered features) can be used in living rooms and bedrooms of today’s residential buildings
