Abstract:

To assess the damage of structures after an earthquake, it is so important to study the correlations between earthquake parameters and damages of structures. Earthquake energy parameters are important characteristics of an earthquake. Several researchers have shown high correlations between theses parameters and damage intensity of structures. In this paper RC frames with different height are considered to compare the correlations between their damage intensities and earthquake energy parameters. The frames are subjected to far-fault earthquake records which earthquake energy parameters are extracted from them and nonlinear dynamic analyses are done. Damage intensities of frames are measured by two types of damage indices. The correlation coefficients between earthquake energy parameters and damage indices of theses frames are calculated and the effect of height of frames in correlation values are studied. By comparing correlation values in the frames with different height, it is shown that in each frame there are high correlations between most of the earthquake energy parameters and damage severity and it is not dependent on the height of RC frames.
