Abstract:
The use of therrmal insulation materials in buildings is desired to reduce the total costs.Fibrous sheets such as needle punched nonwovens have been widely used in construction and building materials. The main objective of this work is to pave a way to reutilize waste fibers in the form of insulations materials to reduce both thermal energy loss and total costs. Moreover, investigating the effects of using nanoceramic powder on the thermal insulation properties of fibrous sheets is the other objective of this work. Therefore, polypropylene and waste polyester fibers were needle punched and coated by various amounts of nanoceramic powder (0, 0.2, 0.4 and 0.8 kg/m2). The samples were heated uniformly at two levels of temperature rise by an electrical heater. The thermal insulation of the samples were investigated by the use of an infrared thermometer. The results showed that the samples coated by nanoceramic powder have less thermal conductivity in compared to the uncoated sample. Moreover, the samples which contain higher amounts of nanoceramic powder show less thermal conductivity. It was concluded that adding nanoceramic powder on the fibrous sheets increases the thermal insulation properties
