Abstract:

An explicit hybrid stabilization method is utilized together with a reduced 2×2 order integration scheme to stabilize spurious zero energy modes from the sub-integrated degenerated shell element.Overcoming to this severe phenomenon is achieved after employing appropriate contravarianthigher order stress modes. The relevant finite element formulation of the piezolaminated ninenoddedshell element is then derived for vibration control of smart structures. The resulting formulationhas been implemented in a finite element code which is subsequently used to model and analysesome typical problems. Considering the complete coupled structural model achieved using our novel method, active control of free and forced vibrations of piezoelectric smart shell under predefinedexcitations is studied using state space representation of the piezolaminated shell system. Thecontrol gains and piezoelectric actuation voltages which provide vibration control are determined using pole placement methods. Harmonic excitation and moving load problems are considered in the forced vibration control and the active vibration suppression is achieved using strain feedback
