Abstract:

Introduction: Nowadays many of patient who had mandible resection for different reasons, had undergone reconstruction surgery with free iliac crest graft. Treatment continues by placement of endosseous dental implants and implant-supported prosthesis to regain appropriate function and esthetics. Survival rate, bone loss level and other criteria of success in implants placed in iliac graft could be evaluated to assess success of treatment plan. Methods: 9 patients who had undergone mandibular reconstruction surgery with iliac graft in Shariati hospital by a single surgeon from 1390 to 1395 (2012-2017) were observed in this study. 36 dental implants was pleased in their graft in implantology department of dental school of TUMS subsequently. Follow-up visit was managed for patients. Survival rate, bone loss level and other criteria of success in implants placed in iliac grafts were evaluated in clinical and radiographic examinations and were compared to data right after implant placement. Results: Only one out of 36 implants placed in iliac graft was failed and survival rate was estimated 97.2%.Bone loss level in 9 to 69 months (mean: 33 months) was 0.6 to 1.72 mm (mean : 0.64 mm). Conclusion: Dental implants placed in iliac graft in mandible reconstruction had shown great success based on excellent survival rate (97.2%).
