Abstract:
Since at least three-quarters of the volume of concrete is occupied by aggregate, it is not surprising that its quality is of considerable importance. Fine aggregate shall consist of natural sand, manufactured sand, or a combination thereof. Fine aggregate shall be free of injurious amounts of organic impurities. Fine aggregate for use in concrete that will be subject to wetting, extended exposure to humid atmosphere, or contact with moist ground shall not contain any materials that are deleteriously reactive with the alkalis in the cement in amount sufficient to cause excessive expansion of mortar or concrete. Bond between aggregate and cement paste is an important factor in the strength of concrete, especially the flexural strength, the full role of bond being only now realized. Many scientists have investigated the interaction of clays and cement as pozzolanic additives. In this study we want to show the effect of clays on concrete
