CFD-DEM: Introduction to Modeling of Multi-Phase Flows abstract
In this research, some of the recent applications of the computational fluid dynamics –discrete element method (CFD-DEM) in simulation of different aspects and phenomenain fluidized and spouted beds are explained. Modifications were made on the CFD-DEMto empower the model to simulate some of the frequent phenomena (including particlebreakage in beds, effect of electrostatic force and simulation of high density particles inspouted beds) in these gas-solid contactors. Basic equations of the CFD-DEM areexplained and for each application the modifications on the model are mentioned.Snapshots of bed during the simulations as well as some of the basic results areintroduced and discussed in each part. The results of the simulations for all parts are inacceptable qualitative and quantitative agreement with experimental results in theliterature.
