Reduction of salt percent of saline waters by electric field and electrophoresis abstract
The percent of drinking water that is available for ours is only 2.5 to 2.75. The rest of the water on the planet is saline. This cause that more than 50 % of world’s population is suffering a shortage of fresh water resources. One of the options to deal with the water deficit crisis, is desalination seawater and other saline waters. There are different manners to do this and important ones are reverse osmosis (RO), Multi-stage flash distillation (MSF) and Multi effect distillation (MED). This methods also are Expensive and costly solutions. This study is based on the separation of salts from water under electric field and electrophoresis. Electrophoresis is meant to allow the particles in the liquid to move in a certain direction by creating an electric field. The method mentioned in the research is evaluated by software simulation under the Comcast Multiphysics software and Modeling and practical testing in the laboratory. The results show that passage of saline waters (Water with sodium and chlorine ions at specified concentrations) over an electric field, is resulted to separation of particles. It’s concluded that desalination from saline water specially sea water is a practical method by electric field and Electrophoresis.
