Latency Tolerance Evaluation for Uplink Online Interactive Applications abstract
The convenience and various advantages of real-time online interactive (ROI) applications lead to their vast functionality in different areas from big companies in the industry to simple end consumers. Despite all their advantages, their functionality is conditional as they have a low tolerance to latency and jitter. On the other hand, there exist several factors affecting the latency and jitter among which are the underlying network hardware constraints as well as the type of the compression algorithms used to encode the data of the ROI applications. In order to determine the efficiency of these factors on the performance of ROI applications, we design two simulation networks: a long term evolution (LTE) network and an 802.11ac network to transmit the ROI data compressed by the two well-known compression algorithms called high-efficiency video coding (HEVC) and advanced video coding (AVC). The networks are implemented and the results are obtained in terms of delay and jitter to determine the more efficient network as well as compression algorithm for ROI communications.
