Hydrocarbon-Alcohol Separation Using ChCl-Based Deep Eutectic Solvents; Liquid-Liquid Equilibrium abstract

Separation of Hydrocarbon from alcohol in a mixture of {n-Hexane-Isoamyl alcohol} via Deep Eutectic Solvents (DESs), {DES 1; Choline Chloride+1,2propandiol (molar ratio 1:3)} and {DES 2; Choline Chloride+ Ethylene glycol (molar ratio 1:2)} was evaluated by means of Liquid-Liquid extraction procedure. The ternary liquid-liquid equilibrium experiments in the following study were performed at 298.2 K and atmospheric pressure. Densities and refractive indices of components were experimentally determined over the mentioned conditions. Experimental results from the laboratory proves the optimal use of DESs in this separation technique. The reliability of the LLE data were determined by applying the Othmer–Tobias and Hand correlations. Finally, the non-random two liquid (NRTL) model was used to correlate the experimental tie-lines and to calculate the phase compositions of the ternary systems. The results displayed a bright contract between calculated and experimental arrangements.
