Abstract:

Zinc-silver oxide battery due to high electric power, high energy density and its price compared to other secondary batteries, it's dedicated to military applications. The main components constituting the zinc-silver oxide secondary batteries will include the zinc electrode as anode, the silver oxide electrode as cathode, the membrane system and separator,potassium hydroxide electrolyte, case and collectors. Overall electrochemical reaction at zinc-silver oxide cell in the presence of alkaline electrolyte (KOH) is as follows:AgO + Zn + H2O Zn(OH)2 + Ag charge discharge Discharge reaction common products of zinc electrode in the alkaline media are zinc oxide and zinc hydroxide. Charge and discharge reactions of silver oxide electrode in the presence of alkaline electrolyte is done in two stages, that the first stage during discharge- belongs to the reduction of silver peroxide (AgO) and the second stage belongs to the reduction of silver oxide (Ag2O). Voltage in these batteries, in duration of 6 minutes shouldn't be less than the required amount. Thus the internal resistance and polarization should be reduced as much as possible. On the other hand, in the zinc electrode the electrode active material and hydroxide ions in the electrolyte should be adjacent to each other to all necessary conditions for reaction is provided. To reach this goal should increase the porosity on the zinc electrode. In the method used in this project was trying to increase the efficiency of electrode via suitable additive materials. Adding additives to zinc electrode active material causes the electrode regardless of the electrode manufacturing method,after inserting in the electrolyte do role of causing of porosity. Surfactants are organic compounds that used to increase the particlesactive surface.
