Abstract:

Recovery of elemental sulfur from acid gas has been developed over 100 years ago. In the present sulfur recovery unit (SRU), hydrogen sulfide (H2S) is converted to elemental sulfur using the modified sulfur recovery unit. In this paper, using a process simulator known as TSWEET®, SRU was simulated. The effects of tail gas ratio and catalytic bed type on the sulphur recovery were studied and subsequently optimization of the beds temperature in order to enhancing the sulphur recovery was verified at a given acid gas feed and air input to the simulator program. It is shown that the optimal catalytic bed temperature, tail gas ratio and type of catalytic bed are evaluated, the minimum possible temperature (572°F), the ratio of 2.0 and type of hydrolysing Claus bed, respectively
