Full-scale field tests on dynamic response of a shallow foundation due to harmonic excitation abstract

In this study, the dynamic behavior of a shallow foundation is investigated by conducting full scale field tests. Vibrations due to the foundation excitation were recorded by using vertical and horizontal geophones in two perpendicular directions. The tests were conducted in different vibration amplitudes andfrequencies corresponding to different Rayleigh wavelengths. The peak particle velocities recorded during the tests at each measurement point, are plotted against the distance from the vibration source to create a series of attenuation diagrams. Results are also compared with the empirical formula available in theliterature which is commonly used to predict the amplitude of ground vibrations induced by vibratory foundations.
