Abstract:
In this study, bulk composites contain different amount of metallic glass particles produced. Fe-based metallic glass (FMG) particles were mixed with pure Al particles and consolidated through the spark plasma sintering (SPS) method. The mechanical and wear properties of the composite were then investigated. The effects of the FMG content on the hardness, coefficient of friction and wear rates were evaluated. The experimental results showed that the hardness of composites increased with increasing the volume fraction of FMG particles. Also, formation of mechanically mixed layer during the wear test resulted in reduction of coefficient of friction. The composite contains 10 vol.% of reinforcing particles showed the maximum wear rate among all samples.
