Abstract:
In this study a marine propeller’s performance in open water has been analyzed in different situations using computational fluid dynamics (CFD). At first propeller’s performance plot in open water was computed and compared with antecedent laboratorial results. Then oblique flow tests were conducted in a relatively wide number of positive and negative flow angles and different advance coefficients. Thrust and torque coefficients in different directions of coordinate axes and propeller’s efficiency were computed. The results of the oblique flow tests revealed that for most of the advance coefficients, increase of angle results in a decrease in the propeller’s overall efficiency. Furthermore, Effect of these off design conditions were analysed for various propeller parameters and their components in x,y,z coordinates.
