Abstract:
This paper aims to evaluate the effect of the mobile bed on air entrapment through the dam-break flow. The phenomenon was scrutinized using the volume of fluid method. The model was verified using previous laboratory dam-break studies. The results showed that air was entrapped and deformedin the wave-front during the very initial stage. The greatest air-water mixing occurs along with the bottom interface through the wave evolution. The CFD model showed a great accuracy in predicting the dam-break sequential events including the free surface and scouring process throughout the flowfield.
