Abstract:

Background: Anxiety is among the most common problems experienced by coronary angiography (CA) candidates. Anxiety caused physiological responses during the procedure increase the risk of dysrhythmia, coronary artery spasms and rupture. Anxiety can have negative implications for compliance with healthcare visits, medical tests, and treatments. This study therefore aimed to investigate the Different modalities are used to manage anxiety. Method: In this study all inteventional studies from 2016-2020 were identified in a search of Elsevier, PubMed, SID and Google Scholar databases. Finally 50 studies that evaluated the effects of complementary methods on management of anxiety in paients undergoing CA were included. Finding: The findings of this systematic review suggested that complementary methods, such as music therapy, Aromatherapy with orange and lavender essential oils, foot and hand reflexology, Chinese hand massage, Benson’s relaxation technique, damask rose extract, Sukha pranayama, peer group education, pre- procedure nurse-led educational intervention provided by video and gave patients’ information and written education such ac Simple illustration booklet and pamphlets before coronary angiography, Counselling by a clinician qualified in psychological, could be used effectively for management of anxiety in patients undergoing CA. Conclusion: this complementary approach could be used as an effective healthcare measure without any side effects to reduced anxiety in patients undergoing CA.
