Abstract:

A new method for finding and removing random value impulse noise (RVIN) in images is proposed in this paper. The difference between RVIN and Salt-and-Pepper noise is that the amount of noise in RVIN is randomly distributed uniformly from 0 to 255, while in salt-and-pepper noise, the amount of pepper noise is 0 and the amount of salt noise is 255, that is, the values are constant. The algorithm of this paper consists of two steps to remove image noise. The first step reduces the noise density and in the second step the hybrid median filter competes the noise reduction. After the discovery of inappropriate pixels in each phase, error filtering is performed on these pixels, thus gradually removing inappropriate pixels at the end of each phase. The performance of the proposed method has been evaluated on different images and compared with the methods presented in the literature. The simulation result indicates that the proposed method is of high priority over comparison filters.
